I heard the rain and was glad. I wanted to be out in the wet today. When I did go out, yes, it was just right, warm and wet. And I walked to meet my friend in the open meadow. And all the leaves and grass were dripping pleasantly. We walked along a path with a brook and I got to see the lovely skunk cabbage for the first time this season, as I have not been going very far into the woods lately. Gorgeous red and pink and green with rain drops too. And the willow sticks glowing bright red along the river in mist. We talked and talked about plans and change and kids and yoga and writing. Then I walked home with the dogs, happy and tired from their play date. My poetry workshop went so well. I was very pleased with the positive response to my revision. It’s going where I want it to go. I felt this pleasure, like the red willow: drenched in it all day. I also got e-mails with proofs: one from the journal publishing my photo/text assemblage on weather, and it looks great; and they have also chosen five additional photos of mine for the front and the back cover! And, a year ago, I had two poems accepted by another journal and they sent the proof and the poems look great, so that was a cheerful part of the day. I had the chance to do some yard work and cleaning up of one of the gardens. How satisfying, how exciting to see some green shoots coming up! Today was a day I felt spring enlivening every cell in my body.
