#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Last of the Cardinal Flowers

Waking into confusion of what is the hour? A busy-ness in the kitchen as Frank and my daughter were already awake. The kitchen clock ticked yesterday’s time. I did not sleep well. What cold outside, frost on everything, everything. My cardinal flowers stayed in bloom so long, all through October. The hydrangea leaves have wilted and all the blooms have mostly browned. Still, the frost was a visual feast. I walked in the cold air, waking up. Feeling, still, the pleasure of last night’s immersion in poetry with friends and the time out with Frank. Foggy headed, I wondered if I would be able to write my weekly Aim for Astonishing prompt, and work on a poem. I sat in my quiet office, trying to warm it up quickly, having left the heat off. My ears were so grateful for the silence. I did not know what I would write about, but I chose a photo and began writing, and then I was satisfied that I had found something worth saying about finding a way, today, to appreciate the onset of early darkness. Fell into naps throughout the afternoon, still foggy-headed. A remarkable moon tonight, a sliver of moon in a clear black sky, a November slice of light in a peace filled sky. Frank lit a roaring fire and we all warmed to this friendly warmth in the early dusk.
