#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

There’s rosemary and rue. These keep
Seeming and savor all the winter long.
Grace and remembrance be to you.
- William Shakespeare

“Lemon balm causeth the mind and heart to become merry.”

— Nicolas Culpepper,

The beech leaves last and last on the branches, and golden now, they light the woods with the little bit of sun. I go for a five mile run. I have my poetry workshop today; gosh, the poem I bring is just not working. Oh well. In the afternoon a cheery thing I do is harvest my herbs. The huge rosemary bushes in the garden, the bushy parsley, the lemon balm, ah, the lemon balm!, the lavender the sage. I cut it all down and spread all of it out on the dining room table until I can tie up the bunches. But Frank is having a work thing in the house tomorrow, and I realize I have to clean it all up by tonight. After dinner, what aromatic delight, to tie up all the herbs to dry. I stash them in my guest room until i have time to hang them up and the dining room is put back in order. And fragrant. And the fragrance of herbs permeates the house and infuses my spirit with gratitude for this harvest, for this November day.

Beeches light the morning woods
