#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream
Sky in the River
I bundled up, it was an icy, freezing morning. The sky hung in the river in stripes. The news today was the morning sky with such dashes of lilac and baby blue. I walked a long time in the cold and around the wetlands reading the ice. Later in the morning I went out again, despite the cold, to walk around the yard and woods with my dear friend. A cold wind sliced us. I dream of a time when she and I can sit by the fire indoors and drink our tea and talk about being happy grandmothers. Our conversation was swift and not satisfying enough: too short. I sat close the fire all afternoon, warming my bones back up. I didn’t write today. My mind was blank and needed a rest. So I gave it that. It was a pleasant, relaxing day; I replenished myself with a nap. One of my new books came and I may start it tonight: Carmen Maria Machado’s memoir, “In the Dream House.” Unless I go straight to sleep because I am tired tonight. But, at 5:00, I looked outside and it was still light out!
