#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

“The forest floor, also called detritus, duff and the O horizon, is one of the most distinctive features of a forest ecosystem. It mainly consists of shed vegetative parts, such as leaves, branches, bark, and stems, existing in various stages of decomposition above the soil surface.” ~Wikipedia

Awake far too early into a busy day, and out early into the soaked morning of a cloudy day. I am grateful for this time to walk expansively, taking my time, looking at a lot of tree bark, soaked with color and interesting etchings. There is so much to see below and very little, still, in the early spring woods of rainy weather to see up in the sky. I am thinking about leading my webinar on writing monologues for the IWWG today, and feel prepared and ready. I am thinking about being up late last night at my poetry workshop and the richness of critiquing the variety of poems, and the satisfaction of being on the right track with the poems from letters project. Tonight, I look back from the angle of night, of day closing, of a successful workshop and then working by the fire, yes, still the fire! And my daughter making the turkey meatballs, and helping my other daughter by proofing her major grad school paper, and I am tired and content. A day or so ago I submitted a photo series to a literary journal, my Milkweed Cycle. And today, received three e-mails back from then. 1. They received it, but they don’t usually publish just photos, they pair them with art. But the managing editor said she’d show them to the editorial team and they’d vote on whether they could consider this submission. 2. They voted, yes, they will consider the submission. 3. They voted to accept the submission. I’m very pleased with this cycle, featuring the necessity of the milkweed cycle for the monarch butterfly. Glad I trusted my instincts to send it. Today, also, I received an email from the journal that’s featuring one of my ice image poems on the cover and it was a proof, and I was pleased with it. I’m grateful for the time in the woods in every weather. Light as a feather.
