Flakes, a few, falling in the early morning. A chill in the air, and damp. The spring woods are muddy and ragged with broken branches. The skunk cabbage endures in the wetlands, green and wholesome, curled and purple and lush. Big flakes of tree bark float on the surface of the swamp. It’s just me and Charlie, clomping and gushing along into what becomes a very busy, very satisfying day, with clients and running groups on Zoom and meetings. A full and rich day; I was very pleased to be invited to meet with an arts organization, a wonderful one, to help them see how they can transition during this challenging time of no in person programming into having an online education program to sustain them. And then, I make two quiches in the late afternoon for dinner, and they are delicious and enjoyed so much. I don’t always get them right, but tonight I did. And wished I had made four. My daughter made the applesauce cake from scratch to finish up the mammoth jar of applesauce Frank bought at BJ’s, and I made the buttercream frosting. After dinner, I had the superb pleasure of leading my monthly Aim For Astonishing writing workshop online, and the photo inspired prompt I planned worked superbly. It was so satisfying to connect across the miles with these writers and their photos of dresses. The writing was very moving, very surprising and insightful. Tired as I was, I didn’t feel like I wanted it to end, and I had the sense they felt the same. I turn off the computer, re-enter the flow of family life. Everyone is still up, busy at their various activities still. Suddenly, we’re all in the kitchen together, for our late night snacks, happily sharing this last “meal” of the day.
