#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream
“Birds make claims on our vision, hearing, intellect, imagination, and on our creativity. Birds demand intimacy in that they inspire us to express our experiences of them -- to express what we experience of their essential natures. As in all intimate relationships, we gain self-knowledge in the process.”
Lots of drama in the sky this morning; clouds and storm warning colors. I walked with the birds, the herons and egrets and ibis and royal terns. At Longboat Pass bridge I caught some egrets in horseplay, fluffing their feathers, chasing each other in the sand: Birds of Play. Today I realized, in a few short days I will be leaving for The AWP Conference in San Antonio. Today we took a long bike ride into the wind and back and rain threatened and never fell. We dipped in the rolling surf of the Gulf. I worked on my upcoming events and planning. I voted. I mailed my absentee ballot back for the March 3 primary in Massachusetts. I blackened the circle for my hoped for candidate. There was a long long list of choices. I looked down the list; felt entirely clear. In the afternoon the sky truly darkened and it poured over the Gulf. Sadly, I am very close to finishing “Olive, Again.” SPOILER ALERT: She is dying. I’m going to miss her, and I don’t want her character to end.
