#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Young Gray Heron, Lagoon

“…It stopped and tilted its head,
which was much like
a fieldstone with an eye
in it, which was watching me
to see if I would go
or change into something else.”

~ Excerpt from “The Gray Heron,” Galway Kinnell

Up before the sun to drive Frank to the airport and back home before the sun rose. Out at daylight with my daughter so we could enjoy the breakfasting birds together: the ibis playing on the pier and the young pair of heron wandering in the lagoon. Then she spotted an osprey perched in a tree beneath a broad blue sky. Once again, today was not a writing day, but I did get some work done amidst time with my daughter and her boyfriend. Tonight I took them to the play I saw two weeks ago: "Sender,” by Ike Holter. I like it even better this second time, and I’m so thrilled that my daughter likes it as much as I knew she would. There is such an intense liveliness and spirit of play and activity along the shoreline with the birds. The peace and beauty they convey stays with me all day. Heading back from Longboat Pass Bridge my daughter spies the dolphins three, swimming through the pass toward the bridge.
