#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream
The chill of an impending snow storm, temperature dropping, ground freezing, ice forming. I enjoyed every minute of my wander. I feel like listening to something as I wander the wetlands. Something different. Something to surprise me. I choose, on impulse or instinct, the New Yorker’s Writer’s Voice podcast, in which the author of the story reads their own story. I got so, so lucky. What a choice! Rebecca Curtis reading her fiction, “The Christmas Miracle.” It’s hilarious and poignant and with many levels, and the author’s dramatic reading voice is superb. It’s laugh out loud funny in parts, and I if anyone had passed me on the trail they might have wondered if I was a bit off. I had to text the link to my brother, because I knew how much he would enjoy it; I imagined we were listening to it together. Later in the morning he texted me how much he loved the story and planned to share it with his family. It was an auspicious start to a daunting day of leading two webinars, my Farm Pond Writers in the morning, and my Aim for Astonishing webinar in the eve with a new group. Wow, such riches. I led a prompt on the solstice in the morning, and the writing generated was wonderful. I led a photo-inspired prompt in the evening on endings and beginnings, and, there too, the writing was intriguing and funny and poignant and the sharing was sensitive and appreciative. It’s snowing, now. The storm has begun. The snow will fall all night and well into tomorrow. I will wake in a white white world and be glad.
