#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Self-Portrait, My Daily Walk

Self-Portrait, My Daily Walk

Out, after rain, wet woods. Saturation. It’s pleasant and interesting to look at all the trunks of trees, the broken, fallen ones, all in a mess. The walk was long and moist. I had an impulse working its way up. I went home and wrote. It came close, and then it ended. It wasn’t enough. The house was quiet. I went online, to a Playback North America conferen ce, met a woman from Belgium, a woman from Ottawa, a woman from Arizona, a man from Rhode Island. It was the conference opening, and my youngest is one of the organizers and she and I are presenting a workshop in the conference in December, on Playback and Poetry, and it’s so fun to meet creative people from so many different places. People who are making art, making intimacy, pursuing their passions through Covid in astonishing ways. We tried out a new platform: Wonder. I didn’t want to, it was new, but I went anyway, and it was fun playing. Tonight, Frank and I drove after dark to Wellesley to pick up food for dinner, and we drove home. We talked the whole way. I said, after we got back, I felt something sweetened and freshened. I said, it feels like we’ve been on a date! Because we are going hardly anywhere, and we see each other all day long. But tonight felt like we were going somewhere special, and returning from somewhere special, the way you go to a party or a play, the ride in the car is also the fun of it, being alone in the capsule of intimacy, just happy, and the lights of the houses and shops and parks so cheerful a backdrop. In the wet woods I played a lot this morning. I played with seeing surprises. One surprise: myself, walking in the rain where I love to be.
