#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

River’s Edge

River’s Edge

Gloriously, wonderfully, indulgently, and even a little desperately, I slept in until 8:30 a.m. A much needed full night’s sleep. Peak experiences, so full of excitement, change, relief, joy, activity––are also exhausting! I woke eager to be outside in this fast-shifting October light. I made my daughter breakfast first. Then we whisked out, across the meadow. I passed the garden, now, a place of even more liveliness and harvest and meaning, after doing a ceremony there yesterday with my daughter, in the sacred place she made months ago to grow what will be grown, and harvest what will be harvested. Today, in addition to all the many joys of my household, I had so many things to accomplish. And I prepared for my Aim for Astonishing writing group tonight, our fifth monthly gathering. It was a splendid group of deep listening, sharing, and generating new writing. Earlier, I had the special pleasure of having my daughter meet and work with my mentor of many years, my primary trainer during my psychodrama certification. I had just sat down at my desk when my youngest, working in the extra office, texted me to come down quickly. Really? Must I? Yes. She insisted. That could only mean there was a marvel outside her window that I wouldn’t want to miss. Instead, as I joined her, I found her on a Zoom call with my former mentor, Nina Garcia! I got to say hello to Nina after so many years. And how wonderful that she is now available to consult with my daughter about psychodrama and sociodrama. It was quite a turning, and I have such gratitude because I know how much Nina has to offer my daughter; and also, this daughter, who was first imagined in a psychodrama, a dream of a third child, I know how much she also has to offer the world as a leader of creative arts workshops. As I cleaned up the kitchen after making lunch for everyone, my daughter sat near me and told me all she had gotten from the call. The foliage is past its peak for sure. The colors are fading, as they must. And I am satisfied that I appreciated them acutely, moment by moment, day by day, walk by walk.
