Just a bit of trimming of a bush, and then my walk into the heated woods. As I was passing the brook I felt surprise and delight - suddenly, this morning, here today but not yesterday, one tall stem of cardinal flower standing up straight in the shade. My first sighting this year of this favorite August wildflower that always blooms here in this brook. The Pepperbush in bloom is so wonderfully fragrant right now. I shortened my walk to plant some perennials in the shade that must go in before I go. So I dug hole after hole along the granite steps and planted in the shade and felt satisfied. Done! Indoors, today I prepared for my book release and planned the poems I’ll read and that was very satisfying to have that out of the way. Tonight, in to Jamaica Plain with Frank - for his birthday I had surprised him with tickets to a favorite musical group, MaMuse. It was a glorious concert and I made Frank, and myself, very happy.
