#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream
Into the late afternoon I walk Bayshore Boulevard in Tampa, a time for moving my body in the fresh air under the blasting bright blue sunny welcome after a day of sitting in auditoriums and listening to the intense talks and creative minds and noise of writers who are talking passionately and enthusiastically about writing. A highlight of my day (there were many) was the chance to hear a poet I greatly admire, Mary Ruefle, (I couldn't catch a picture of her smiling, but she did, because she is very funny and playful and ironic) who filled a large auditorium for her talk on "tone," which she said is indefinable, but really, it's a bell, and her talk was a meditation on bells, how they are cooling as they ring, and her talk rang bells and sent me out into this landscape of water and sky, palm trees and pelicans, and her ideas and her wit, her brilliance and tone are still ringing in my ears.
