#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream
The last sunrise I saw was the red dawn sky - a week ago. Rain and clouds, rain and clouds. The woods are soaked, so are my boots. The trails nearest the river where I begin my walk are flooded - good news for the water table - but I must veer from my usual route.
Today is a traveling day - off to the Berkshires – so my time to find what I'm seeking is short. A spark of imagination, an elixir of spirit, a delight for the senses. I know a particular place in the marsh I can count on.
My feet soak, wetter, wetter, to reach where the skunk cabbage flourishes, where a brook overflows, a spot under trees in the soft muck. Staying longer planned, I freshen and fill where fertility lures me and the bees and the dogs – a life-giving plant that is rooted in swamp.
