Skunk cabbage
If you see beyond an ugly
name of a wild plant blooming
you'll touch the heat inside
a marsh, mucky in spring
the way a heart might open
like a window into shelter
A season needs to give
first – bodies, warmed
for foraging, for flight
A hive wants a traveler
who returns with elixir
