Some days, March is a mood of how change seems slow, too slow, too many days unchanging, waiting for warmth, and snow too long on the ground, crusty and stale, exhausting to cross, a mood of who cares there's even more light, it's more lighting of what you've grown tired of looking at. March mood is a waning interest in a daily walk in the woods, it's a longing for a fresh surprise.

Today, and yesterday, to my surprise, March mood shifts; it's unanticipated patience and reverence for what is lovely about lasting through a season until the end:

A sensitive fern, beaded and crusted with snow

A twining vine holding an aged leaf

The dogs, dark and light on snow, at the river's edge

The simple skeleton of withered weed 

The piercing green of new growth, startling and sharp
