About the Workshop
A playback enactment is ephemeral––we witness the gorgeous, fleeting moment, and then it’s gone. A beautiful poem or piece of prose is also a gorgeous enactment, and yet, writing extends the moment, both for the self and for the audience. Metaphors are the heart and soul of effective playback––as well as poetry and prose. Consider this metaphor from a Frannie Lindsay poem, “Elegies Written on Water for Children”––And now the splashless moon/wades in, turns like a taller sibling,/and beckons. We’ll explore metaphors that have personal meaning for what is emerging in our bodies, minds and spirits. We’ll draw from delicious poems, playback structures and generative writing to find and express the metaphors for powerful energies we want to release in our personal lives or playback troupes. And you’ll take creative writing home with you as a lovely and lasting reminder.
