#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Gulf of Mexico, late afternoon

Gulf of Mexico, late afternoon

“…Sometimes it takes
a great sky
to find that

first, bright
and indescribable
wedge of freedom
in your own heart
…”

Excerpt from “The Journey,” by David Whyte

The day starts with moon, massive moon of the car window, moon of the morning all the way in transition. To the airport, moon. And then it’s light, and the plane takes off and one week after leaving Longboat Key, I return to the sun spangled Gulf. There is a beach towel to receive me and I stretch flat down into a bed of sand and fall into a deep, deep sleep. I rise, ready to walk for miles along this wonderful coastline with the shorebirds in the late afternoon. Meanwhile, Frank re-stocks the fridge and makes our meal as the orange sun slips over the horizon. I realize I must be thinking about a poem for tomorrow night–suddenly, it will be Monday and I will want a poem to share.
