Swimmer in Storm

A snowball in my hand saved the morning. Strange sight, out the in the yard, some snow, lots of wind, plenty of rain, a mix of winter invading spring. A chair on the deck picked up and thrown over in the middle of the night woke me. Glad it wasn’t a tree or a branch. Wave saw the storm and didn’t want to go to school, of course. I figured out why. He needed an encounter with snow. This last one. So, in the yard I managed to scrape up a clean handful. Shaped it into a ball and brought it to him and wooed him out of his minor tantrum. It was just what he wanted. I made an orange juice slushy with yard snow. And a dipping egg. And he was out the door. I struggled myself about swimming. Yuck. I didn’t want to go out. This kind of resistance is rare for me. But I did manage a swim. I had a great meeting with my poetry mentor on my manuscript. And I made a turkey dinner for the family which came out great. After dinner, led my free write workshop tonight, and that was very special and satisfying. My aunt and uncle are struggling, and that is very sad. I am going to go out there first thing tomorrow. Tonight, the snow and the wind and the rain have gone. Trying to be patient with this early spring winter weather.
