Writing from My Photo Stream ~ Kelly DuMar

#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Someone has been playing with the pine cones in the field beside the pine grove. I found the arrangement on the moss. Walked Charlie after helping the boy get out the door with dipping egg and hot chocolate which he spilled all over himself in the car and had to change his jacket. Monday morning after vacation. I didn’t listen to anything. My instinct said, just be quiet and listen to the quiet. Stopped at the brook which spoke to me. A revelation. The poem I had sent to workshop to be discussed this morning was one I didn’t want to write. I stopped writing it Saturday and returned to it reluctantly on Sunday and finished a draft, which surprised me. At the brook I realized that writing it was a revelation about my next book project. Then I swam, and then I went to morning poetry and was glad I brought the poem and I got excellent feedback. Then, a nice chat with my Ukrainian friend whom I hope is coming for a visit soon. She mentioned the relief she, and many others in Washington felt about the passage of the Ukraine aid. I’m so excited for her visit soon. Then, time with my daughter, we did some errands and got delicious iced tea and talked through an issue she needed to process. Home again to a client I haven’t seen in a couple of weeks and it was wonderful to reconnect with her and her writing. Then I made dinner! “Delicious chicken” as my grandson calls it and it was a treat for him and we all sat down and talked about Martha’s Vineyard and what we would eat and do this summer when we’re on Chappaquidick. And how we would all bike ride together, and he said he would ride on Papa’s lap. After dinner, poetry with my friends and more discussion of my poem, and also just great conversation about the manuscripts we’re working on. Then a talk with my sister about my uncle and aunt. I’m so grateful my cousins and nephews are all visiting him as well. On my walk I startled two herons from their resting places. Tonight, I am grateful for this day and my visit to the brook.
