#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

The Berkshires

Cloudless blue sky out my hotel window. Up at 7:00 as planned even though I didn’t sleep well. Straight to the manuscript with coffee. And then a walk while the sun is strong. There is a sheeting of snow from yesterday, and ice, plenty of ice. Immediately, I step into an unforced error: trying to take an ice image on the retention pond, I got my boots soaking wet. It was like that outside: wet and slippery, but I wanted my walk. I figured my feet would be wet, so what? Then, walking the sidewalk, it was slipper as heck and I managed to slip and NOT fall quite a few times, proud of my balance. It was a partly pleasant, but impossible to really get lost in the process. I didn’t want to fall! The rest of the day the sun stayed out, so bright, and I stayed at it. By 6:00 p.m. I had the manuscript ordered on my computer, as well as the paper and I felt done. I had accomplished what I set to accomplish. And I felt ready to go home. And there was no reason not to go home. In fifteen minutes I had myself packed up and in the car. And wow. The ride home! I drove East on the Mass. Pike into the pink setting sky. And the trees glistened in the late pink light, still frozen from yesterday’s storm. And the moon, a white wafer just visible behind the pink veil of sunset. And then it was dark and the lights of the cars and trucks glowed and I sped on down the Mass. Pike with my manuscript ordered and Frank waiting for me at home.
