Charles River Reflection

How could it be? 9:30! I wake up, look at my phone, and realize I have somehow let myself sleep well into the morning! It’s delicious. There is a bite in the air, and such reds and greens and golds in the meadow and woods. The light is muted and there’s a Halloween bite of chill in the air. I decide to take a lingering walk in the lush colors and textures instead of a swim. The river is choppy; a breeze. Frank calls to say good morning form his office. He has been up for hours and he is asking about the taxes. Oh, the taxes. Yes. The accountant is calling. Now I see what my day will be. So, I walk and breathe in the delicious fall air. The equinox is in two days. And I realize, yes. This feels good and right, this seasonal shift. I am ready. I am enjoying it. Let the rain come. i would like to feel the rain. Tonight, at dinner, Frank and I sat at the dining room table. He lit the candles, which we have not done much this summer. And then he lit the fire in the fireplace! Oh, yes! We have a gas fireplace! And it’s cozy and lit. We eat in the waning light by the warmth of the fire. And, the taxes, they are begun. Autumn is coming. All is well.
