#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream
Last day on Chappie. Overcast, muggy, eventually, rain. I walked Charlie for a last walk over the mossy trail. I rode my bike to East Beach and walked in the surf, took a last dip. We packed, cleaned. Frank had a 3:45 ferry from Oak Bluffs. My ferry home was Vineyard Haven at 5:00 p.m. So, I had an amazing opportunity. I decided to revise my play before getting home. I parked in Vineyard Haven and pulled out my computer and wrote until I had to go to the ferry line. Then I wrote in the ferry line. Then I wrote in the ferry in the car. And I finished the revision just as the doors opened to spill the cars off into Woods Hole. Whew! I did it. I’m ready for a reading. It’s about the length I had hoped for, too. I think it will run as a 75-minute play, no intermission. One set, two characters. I drove home quite satisfied. Just as I neared home and the Charles River on Route 27 I looked up and there was bald eagle swooping over my car, crossing the road. A lovely welcome home. Frank had already unpacked his car, and my son and Frank unpacked mine and Frank and I are so happy to be home. I toured the yard to see the plants. Some hearty, some not. Tomorrow I’ll spend some time with them. Frank said Brittany ran happily all around the house, very excited to be home––as we all are. And me with my play, started in Turkey, revised on Martha’s Vineyard.
