#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

There are so many turtles sunning on the lily pads! Painted turtles of all sizes; families of turtles out enjoying the sun and warm weather at the Audubon wildlife sanctuary in the next town, Broadmoor. After taking Wave to his swimming lesson, I take him for this hike in the wetlands and woods of this lovely sanctuary. I haven’t taken him for a couple of years. He is eager to see turtles, and we see many of them and we walk the trails to the waterfall where he learns about how strong water is when it’s falling. His legs are tired for the way back, so I use mine for both of us, and I don’t mind. We go for lunch at a bagel shop and then buy a treat next door for his mother. And more crafts for him to do with his mother these summer days. It’s so good to be home. I collapse for a nap in the afternoon; the household is busy and demanding. The weather is warm and pleasing. I swam before taking Wave to his lesson. My youngest made the most delicious savory tart for dinner, I didn’t even need to cook, a tomato tart with Havarti cheese and a homemade crust, modeled after a delicious tart our friend Veronique made one day for us to take to the beach for a picnic when we visited her in Corsica. Another lovely summer memory. Frank is happy to be home as well. Tonight, I watered everything and tried not to feel overwhelmed by the weeds; I’m trying to get to them but Wave comes first. Wave before weeds. Peace is a lily, flowering in the wetlands of a sanctuary with the frogs croaking and the woodpeckers pecking and the turkeys wandering and the bright, electric blue dragonflies hovering.
