#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Rain and then clearing. Fresh air, I wake early to leave early. No time for a swim or a walk. I help Wave get out the door with an egg sandwich, and I get to put him into his car seat. We are all happy he is home. I drive to see my aunt. My brother, sister and I are meeting her for lunch to break the news that my uncle died yesterday, around 6 p.m. a few hours after I left him. Peacefully. We didn’t want to tell her over the phone and it was too late for one of us to get there in person and we hated to give her this news late at night. Instead, we decided to be together with her, and that’s what we did. I had called her while I was with my uncle to let her know I was with him, holding his hands and telling him she loved him. As it turned out, my aunt’s sister who did not yet know the news, was with her, and so we were all able to be with her in person and comfort her. She said he visited her late last night to say he was going. She is much loved already by staff and residents where she is living. My aunt and uncle took care of so many of their needs, including writing obituaries and leaving them in a file which my sister has. Now, we begin planning the service, a celebration of life in two weeks. Now my uncle his with all his siblings: Jim, Dusty, Jody and Susie, and the five of them are together, and he is with his daughter Debbie and I am glad to think of them all being together, and my aunt is as well.
