#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Today, after six hours in the car driving to see my aunt and uncle through tough traffic, I was stopped a few miles from home tonight for speeding. Going 44 in a 35 mile speed limit zone. I was exhausted and just surrendered to the idea that I was going to be punished. Except the cop was a woman, and she was friendly, and she smiled at me, and she was kind when she asked if I knew why she stopped me, and she really seemed to want to let me get on my way quickly. And she was quick, checking my license and registration and when she returned to my car, this smiling copy, twenty-something, told me, enthusiastically, that I have a great driving record! And how much she appreciates that! And all she was going to do was give me a warning, and use her cruiser to help me get back onto the road safely. Well, as you can imagine, I have never ever ever felt better for having been stopped. It was like she stopped me just so she could give me a compliment. And I took it––happily.
