Happy Birthday Perri

The skyline out the window over the river is bright red for sunrise. Thirty two years ago today I gave birth to my second child, my daughter, Perri, in Dunedin, Florida. It’s startling how much her son looks like her in this picture. I take no walk today, but I do take my swim. I go out early to get a bouquet of flowers for my daughter. Then Frank and I attend a memorial service for a friend’s father. I work on some poems. I have another acceptance for an image in a literary journal. Another Costa Rica image––Playa Pelada is such a wonderful source of pictures. I missed Nosara a bit today. I got to pick up my grandson from school. Driving home I sang some nursery rhymes, including the three little kittens who lost their mittens.

“Grammy, why can’t the kittens have pie?”

Hmmm. I try to explain why the mother cat might be upset at the kittens losing their mittens, possibly because they only have a single pair and the mother’s afraid their hands will be cold all winter. He is not satisfied. But he is satisfied with the toy backhoe I got him for his mother’s birthday when we were in the store picking out an outfit for her. And he settled for having a piece of his mother’s birthday cake instead of a whole cake of his own. My youngest baked her sister’s cake, a chocolate pudding cake, and I made a special dinner. All of us there together tonight and everything thought my chicken was delicious. We have a nice rollicking time playing dinosaurs before bed and the house is happy and noisy tonight.
