And did you love

November, the river catching the falling leaves, this year’s leaves, falling, catching them, carrying them, soaking them, letting them fall, still, beneath the surface, wetter, softer, thinner, thin and breaking down, becoming matter, becoming particles, organic material, settling on the river bottom, as soil?

And did you love

the questions, opened in your mind and heart, even though you wanted answers you hoped for, answers you believed in, answers you knew were the best answers?

And did you love

the compost you emptied from the bin, the compost in your gloved hands, the gluey, stinky compost breaking down and put on the ground ?

And did you love

the crowd of earthworms on the black soil when you moved the bin and found them squirming and improving the soil they squirmed in as they squirmed?

And did you love

your body, its exhaustion, it’s willingness to be tired and to go on putting the laundry in the washer, the dishes in the dishwasher, to climb the stairs and stairs and stairs?

And did you love

climbing, tired, the errands and stairs?

And did you love

the thanks, given by Wave, to Frank, for the pizza, the dinner you did not have to cook?

And did you love

his arms, Frank’s arms, the long hug, in the kitchen, while doing the dishes, his arms around your grief
