Katama Evening

Today it was Charlie who got in trouble. He was unhappy that we went for a bike ride and left him at home with Frank and will who were working. Boring! While at the playground in Edgartown I got a call from an unfamiliar number, and thankfully answered. It was Kim. From animal control. In Edgartown. She had Charlie. He’d been picked up by the Edgartown police when found wandering our quiet, residential street without a leash. Edgartown apparently has a very strict leash law. I could pick him up near the Edgartown airport at the vet. And, there would be a bond. Well, at least a fine. And she’d give me a break on the fine, as Charlie was a first offender. So, $40, versus $90. We finished up at the playground, rode the bikes home, got the car, and bailed Charlie out. He was fine. Happy to see us. Promised he wouldn’t do it again. Grounded. For the rest of vacation. Tonight, after a delicious dinner of fresh scallops that Frank cooked, we all hopped on bikes, road into Edgartown. Some got ice cream. It was nearing dark when we returned home, and Franci, Will and I decided to continue our ride down to the beach. It was such an irresistible evening to be out. A breeze blowing up from the sea. It was so freshly warm. It was dark on Katama, and the white froth of waves were bright in the deep blue sky. Home safe in the dark.
