#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Author Kate Briggs on the R, Yasmine Seale, interviewer on left

One of my favorite things to do in Paris is to attend a literary event at the American Library, which I did tonight. A free event to hear novelist Kate Briggs and translator Yasmine Seale discuss motherhood, fiction, and time: making it, measuring it, filling it, and writing it: her new novel, “Long Form.” Frank had meetings this evening, so we had a fast dinner at a cafe and then I walked the four minutes to the library. I arrived early and had a really stimulating conversation about books with a some other attendees. The talk and the reading from her novel were so fascinating. I didn’t buy the book because I shopped today and I have way too much to take home. I thought, I’ll order it online when I get home, which I just did, but it’s on pre-order in the US until October! Oh well. Yes, this morning was hot and fun and tiring. I had a client and led a group last night from 11:45-2:45 a.m., and I was glad I did; I was quite awake and happy to be with writers from home. So, I slept in until 7:30. It was cooler and cloudy and I went straight to my favorite coffee place on Rue de Grenelle, had a delicious latte and banana bread and worked on my computer. Frank went to tennis, then joined me in the cafe. A quick walk back to the flat to drop off my computer and then I took off for a few hours of buying gifts for the family in St. Germain des Pres area. The day grew hotter and I was on foot. Fortunately, I was successful, bit by bit, finding sweet things for the kids that I felt they would love. And I went a bit overboard for Wave. A very darling, tiny French “speedo” style suit! Gosh, I hope it fits. And a few other cute clothing items––only in Paris. I walked home, hot and happy with my treats and had time for a brief nap before running my Charles River Writers group. A full and delightful day. Tomorrow, we have the day together, for whatever we want to do. Dinner with our dear friends tomorrow night. Soon enough, our plane, with luggage too full!
