#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Swim, again. Clouds. Clouds that clear while I am in the pool. After my laps, Wave joins me in the kiddie pool for his swim. We play and play and play. This is a wonderful start to the day, and the week. We have yard work and gardening to do after that. I have yellow yarrow to plant by the barn where I have ferns, and I see that I need some more ferns. We go to the shady part of the brook where the water is high. There are some cinnamon ferns that are easy to dig up. I gather three. He helps me with his own shovel and ends up in the brook. We are both mud-caked, head to toe. This is the happiest time of my day. It’s hot out and a delight to rinse each other off with the hose after transplanting the ferns and watering everything well. In the afternoon while he naps I get a poem draft quickly written for tonight. And I bake an apple pie for dessert. And he still sleeps, so I start dinner, the chicken, the vegetables. It’s dinner time by the time he wakes up, his mother comes home, we have another sit-down dinner, one I’ve happily made, and my son comes in the door at the right minute to join us. It’s so good to be home. Poetry with peers tonight, advancing our poems. A walk after that, by myself, to say goodnight to the river and give thanks for the day.
