#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Charles River Morning Sun

Not ready to dip outdoors in the early morning. Pool is closed. I decide to walk. There is so much pink. Including, and especially, the first lady slipper sighting. I text my daughter who is at work––I win our annual first sighting competition! She congratulates me. Then, after work tonight, she texts me she is having a swim at Farm Pond. She beats me to the first swim around the island and comes home quite chilled, but happy. I congratulate her. It’s a perfect weather day for keeping the doors wide open downstairs and letting the fresh breeze blow the scents of spring indoors. After my walk, I have my Ukrainian group. Everyone is cheerful, even the ones in Kiev who have not slept because of the missiles. They say they are not scared anymore. Just sleep in the hall. It is quite an extraordinary group today, as many of ours are. But I had mailed everyone a copy of my book––and they had asked me about it. I offered to share my video intro to the book if they wanted, and today we did that. Eva, our new translator, did a valiant job of translating as much as she could. We had a lovely discussion after, it was very touching to talk to them and answer questions their questions, posed in Ukrainian, about the letters and my daughter’s performance and my mother and the poems. It was so special. I got my IWWG Summer Conference faculty assignment to a suite mate today. My friend Lynne Barrett. We have enjoyed each others company for a number of years. I’m looking forward to it. There was a barred owl in the yard right up close to the house this morning, calling to us indoors: Who cooks for you? Who cooks for you? I do! I do, I yelled back through the open door.
