#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream
Lightless and heatless tonight, waiting for the return of power, like so many. Trees down on the roads. Land moved a tree off the driveway this morning to get to work. Awake a good portion of the night, listening to the wind and the trees and the rain and a door blowing open. A haunted house. But we had power for breakfast, and I drove the boy to school in the blowing rain. It was kind of exciting. Then I went to go swim at the health club, my laps, and just as I entered the pool their lights went out, so I had to leave. I swam at home instead, and my own lights went out. So, no water for a shower. Still, I am ingenious. I knew the wagon in the yard would be full of rainwater, and all of Wave’s toys too. So with my anti-chlorine shampoo, I washed my hair in freshly fallen rainwater while I was being rained upon! It was fun! Then, a quick dash to Starbucks to go to my poetry workshop. My poem, drafted yesterday, was quite successful. Simple and successful. I need to write more of those! It was very heartening. All day it kept pouring and I was back and forth to Starbucks. Eventually, my daughter and her boyfriend were there too, and then my daughter and her son, and then all of us eventually back to the health club for dinner in the restaurant. Then my son joined us too! It was kind of storm party, and we have all the flashlights lit. Frank checked first thing this morning, and the tent survived the storm, but all of the woods are in water. What a messy storm. My daughter’s parked car got hit by a branch and so her windshield and roof need some repair. But I hope everyone is recovering from the storm and finding warmth and safety and a friend to be near tonight in Massachusetts.
