#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Lucy Vincent Beach Afternoon

We walk, we swim, we walk, we swim and talk and talk and talk in the heat of a gorgeous sunny day. My friend and I, up early, take my daily walk together, in a light fog, up the dirt road, down the hilly winding path to the stone covered shore of Vineyard Sound. Charlie in the lead. We’re early, and don’t see another soul. We go to Great Rock Bight and have our skinny dip, cooling off for our walk back for breakfast. I love my daily ritual here. I am so hungry! I realize this after making breakfast for my son. We sit on the picnic table eating scrambled eggs and toast. I so rarely sit down to a real breakfast. The house feels full in the happiest way; to have my friend, her daughter, my own daughter and son. We drive my daughter to the ferry, stopping at a bookstore in Edgartown. Now she is leaving for over a week, and then will be back. The temperature climbs and my friend and I get to Lucy Vincent as fast as we can to get in the water. Our afternoon of swimming flies by and it’s time to take my son to the ferry. He, too, leaves for a week and will return. Those few moments, at breakfast, and in the car on the way to the ferry, I get to listen to so many interesting things he’s involved with right now: including becoming certified as a Forest Bathing Guide. He is following his passions, and this makes me so glad. We are home late tonight, for us, after dinner with Frank in Oak Bluffs. I must have my last morning walk with my friend and put her on a plane bound for Boston, Miami, and Ecuador.
