#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Evening Brook

Last night the poem I workshopped was “Cormorant morning.” This morning, as I walked Charlie to the river, I stood up on the rock at our boat ramp and gazed up the Charles. There, floating on the surface, was a single cormorant! The cormorants from my poem live on Farm Pond. Rarely do I see a cormorant on the river, but there presence isn’t unusual. It’s just wonderful syncrhonicity; the morning answering the poem. Later, as I swam under the baking sun on Farm Pond, I changed a word in the poem because just the right one came to me. My day started well before the cormorant’s, in any case. Set my alarm for 3:55 so I could drive my son to Logan Express to get the bus to his Boston flight to Colorado. Tired as I am tonight, my eyes blinking closed as I write, I was glad to get to see him off on his journey and have the twenty minutes of time with him. And then I had a long day ahead of me and the chance to get a lot done. i had my Ukrainian support group, and I prepared a prompt today. My instinct told me to––and I was glad I did. It didn’t go the way I thought it would. It went better! Interestingly, I found out that our interpreter, who has been a refugee from Ukraine to Poland these last months, is actually moving here to the U.S. in a week or so. The house is noisy and busy with hammering. This means great progress is being made on the construction. Tonight, after dinner, I walked to the lush green quiet river in the hot and heavy air of this heat wave. Grateful for the rain that watered the land all night last night.
