#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Spotted Turtle (Clemmys guttata)

Even the tongues

of bells shall still

*

You who will bear

my body along

Spirit me into the six

Do not startle

at its lack of weight

How light

~ Excerpt from “Eulogy,” by Kevin Young

Agh, how to write about this tragic day.

The spotted turtle on the railroad tracks: only saw her because I turned back from the way I was headed. Missed her the first time I passed. She is up on land from the wetlands on either side of the tracks to lay her eggs. There will be eggs. There may be new spotted turtles, come September.

Agh, how to write about this tragic day.

My photo-inspired writing group tonight. Tears, laughter, truth and beauty. Intimacy, deep listening. Comfort and hope. Imagination and surprise.
