#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream
Suddenly, Scottsdale. All out sunshine and blue sky. A bit cool. Until I go for my walk. Frank is on a phone call, so I hit the sidewalk of a busy street.Camelback rises behind our resort. I walk up the street and find a a road to walk up and up. It’s a residential road with wonderful views as it climbs. Up at 5:00 a.m., we left town in the pouring rain. It snowed briefly, last night, out my window I saw the big fat flakes tumbling in the outdoor spotlight. And here we are now in the desert. The last time I was here was 2019, for a writing conference. I’m so glad to be back. I had such a wonderful walk and I grew hot and hotter in the late afternoon sun. Tonight, after a bite to eat, we drove the roads up that I walked this afternoon. I wanted to show Frank the sunset over Scottsdale, spread out, in tiny lights. He was glad I did. All the distractions of home are far behind. On the plane I worked revising poems. One I’ve worked on for years, one I had recently given up on, suddenly came in a new rhythm and voice and spilled out and I was pretty happy with it. Revised, successfully, one more. Then, began a third one. One I hope to bring to the revision workshop Monday night. Wore my hiking boots on the plane and all afternoon and my legs are kind of achey. Too long since I’ve worn them. Glad to have them on.
