Afternoon Energy in the Brook

Birch Bark

A delayed walk today. A layer of fine snow coated the ground overnight, making a walk in the woods treacherous: all those ice patches hidden under the veil of delicate powder. I chose an early swim. I am taking it easy this week and didn’t push myself beyond a half an hour in the pool. A fine rhythm; practicing meditation while swimming, focusing on the breath, the breath, the breath. Then, home, busy day with clients and prepping for my Aim for Astonishing workshop tonight. Charlie was pleased when I emerged in the late afternoon for the long delayed walk and the veil of snow had melted into the earth. I stopped at the bubbling fresh and frosty brook and felt the gush of energy I needed for refreshment. I thought about the special one’s lost boot. I could not stop looking. I took the trail to the left, the trail where my instincts told me he’d lost it, and promised myself I would keep my eyes glued to the edges where all the dead leaves rested. I stopped and looked into the ice on all the wet places to my heart’s content. But I watched and watched for the boot. Perhaps an animal carried it away to make a nice winter shelter? I kept going, walking well beyond the spot where I turned back every other time. And there it was on the edge of the trail just waiting to be found! I was so happy to see that boot and make the pair again. I was so happy I kept walking and stopped in a lot more wet places. My workshop was so rich tonight, I shared a prompt from fairy tales, and the responses were deep and creative. A sleepiness is coming over me. A time for rest.
