Morning Brook

"A flowering weed;
Hearing its name,
I looked anew at it."
- Teiji

Instead of a walk, I have limited time, I attack weeds. Weeds crowding my three boxes of butternut. Sun, very hot on my head and back as I crouch. It’s very satisfying to see the butternut vines in the neatened boxes with their yellow blossoms. They seem to breathe easier. I sense they are quite relieved to feel so uncrowded. They want to show what they can do, what they are meant to do. There are too too many weeds in all my gardens to pick today. So, I save them for another, cooler day. Today I get some limited time at my desk and then there are errands. I take my swim in the pool instead of Farm Pond to save time. Tonight my friend comes for a casual dinner after packing. Charlie makes so much noise when he sees her, expecting her dogs have come for a visit as well. After dinner we have cupcakes and conversation. Charlie joins us where we sit on the couch talking and lies down across both of my friend’s feet––as if he could keep her from leaving.
