Gardens at Lambert’s Cove Inn
Oh, my, this heat and humidity and hot sun. Yet, the garden seemed refreshed by some nighttime rain and I plucked a purple-skinned and unflawed eggplant. And all the rows watered. All the hydrangeas and the saplings too. Now I am in Martha’s Vineyard after an afternoon on the beach in the searing sun. Cold water refreshment. In the garden at this Inn there is a fabulous yew tree. And all the perennials are lively and wholesome and unscarred. What a sleepy, energy drained day. The heat has been oppressive, truly. But seeing the well-watered and fertilized flowers in their bed standing color-bright and pert, I feel revived. It’s a challenge to not be grouchy to the ones you love on such a heated day. And mostly, I wasn’t, by an act of will.
