Chilmark

I oversleep, but we manage to get the car packed and set off on our journey. Here we are. And to think we might not have made it here this summer. To miss this–the peaceful meadows and the salty surf and the moon tonight, in the convertible, driving from Chilmark to Aquinnah and back to Edgartown, star filled sky and a quarter moon shining clearly in the midnight blue. Here we are. I bobbed and floated in the surf of my favorite beach and slept on a towel in the sun and woke into a fine mist rolling in. I am grateful to be in this special summer place: to feel the pleasure of the past and the gratitude of the moment mingling. I am sun wearied and ready for sleep, and the crickets are singing me to sleep outside the open windows on this muggy island night.
