#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Web over the Charles River

. . . And every year there is a brief, startling moment

When we pause in the middle of a long walk home and

Suddenly feel something invisible and weightless

Touching our shoulders, sweeping down from the air:

It is the autumn wind pressing against our bodies;

It is the changing light of fall falling on us.

~Edward Hirsch

Bright sun low in the sky lighting the trees, the shrubs, the wetlands, and me. A short walk with the dogs at the start of a busy day. At the river’s edge, many webs spun in the night and hang in the sunlight over the blue. It’s cooler, the outdoor swims are over. I have a rare pleasure: four poems accepted for publication today. One about my husband’s heart surgery and three more, including the long poem about swimming in Farm Pond that I wrote this summer. Rejections are frequent, acceptances rare, I appreciate the encouragement. I eagerly start my newest six month Aim for Astonishing webinar in the late afternoon, and the sharing and writing are so nourishing. Then, in the kitchen, none of us has planned or prepped for dinner. We put our heads together and then my husband is whipping up a seafood and vegetable pasta: perfect. I’m relieved. The day so busy I’ve hardly had a chance to chat with my daughters, both of them here. Tonight, more poetry, with my pals in Mississippi and Texas, and we laugh and share poems, and this is poetry two nights in a row for me, but I have the energy: it gives me energy. This autumn light and fresh air give me energy. My daughter stripped the garden today, finished it up. Soon we will turn over the soil for next year.
