Muggy September morning, and we’re hot as we walk in the damp woods. It’s a shorter walk because I have my Wednesday morning group. I brought, among other things, a poem by Georgia Douglas Johnson. We were working with the theme of creativity as incubation and this poem resonated for me, personally. Self-doubt, not trusting my vision, are certainly factors that fetter me with any creative project. [I’m thinking about my book.] This poem speaks to me with the reminder: when my spirit is engaged, (when I attend to my spirit), when my emotions are engaged, when my imagination is fired, this is when I rise up into my energy and move beyond fear into feeling fired with passion and discipline.
