#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Chicory, Autumn Woods

They promised rain all day, and it started while the dogs and I were walking, early, in the meadow at Medfield State. Pleasantly, it began, and we were not drenched. Rain drops plopped and rippled on the river. My feet grew wetter and wetter. At home, we warmed by the first fire in the fireplace, where I worked all day as they rain fell heavier. Today I tweaked some poems, made a small change in the order, and e-mailed my chapbook to a small Boston poetry press that said they would read and consider it. Before I walked this morning, early early, my husband and both woke up – Charlie was barking for breakfast! – and we had a very long talk, a catch up, an exchange about our work, of news and thoughts and feelings and goals, and he has been sick for almost two weeks with a bad cold, so he hasn’t been his usual cheerful, talkative self for awhile, so I listened and let him talk, and I was happy he felt like sharing, and as he was leaving for his meeting he said, “Nice talk.” And I was glad, because I think he meant that he talked and I listened well.
