Charles River Morning
Sunshine! What pleasure to walk under a stunning blue sky along the golden river. I’m so grateful to walk, and run, on a clear and dry morning. And the evening, after dark, driving into the city with my daughter, having dinner, going to an event, and then driving home, the intimacy we shared was as spectacular as the morning’s foliage. I wasn’t anticipating such a deep dive, laughter and tears, intense sharing, letting new and old wounds be attended to; we talked nonstop, except when we were watching my other daughter perform for True Story Theater after dinner. Walking down the street, laughing hysterically at a shared joke, and then, driving home, covering old territory, hurts and healing. She is stunning, inside and out, this woman, my daughter. How she lets me into her world and inspires me. We talk about the broken time between us, the tender time. How far we have come from then, but how wounding it was. We look into each other’s eyes and we don’t pretend anything. Survival, this is what matters. We are so engrossed in our deep listening, we forget she parked her car on Route 9, and so we must turn around in the late evening and backtrack to retrieve it. Every minute of this night is a blessing.
