#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Goddard College

We slept with the doors open to the fresh night air. Charlie must have smelled an animal, probably deer in the early morning. At 4:00 a.m. he woke me barking, woke Suzi, they tore down the stairs and stood barking to be let out. I stumbled down the stairs, put kibble in their bowls to get them to stop barking and went back to bed, sleepless. We walked at 8 under heavy clouds into the leaf lit woods. For me, it’s a day to travel; now, I sleep in Vermont, at Goddard College, in a dorm room with my daughter. We drove through New Hampshire, under blue sky, across the state to Vermont, and the foliage was so cheerfully melancholy and bright in the late afternoon. We are here at the Power of Words writing conference to present a workshop on Poetry and Playback Theatre. The campus was almost dark when we arrived. Tomorrow, I will wake to walk with the energy of fresh eyes in a new landscape I’m eager to explore.
