#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

should be wrong period

Whenever I travel, I listen to Tom Ashbrook's On Point Week in the News podcast on Saturday morning while I walk and take pictures, which is what I'm doing this morning when I realize my phone didn't charge overnight. My battery will surely run out, I don't know when, but long before I'm finished shooting and listening.

A big story this week is the firing of Bill O'Reilly by Fox News

for allegations of acts of sexual harassment against women. Tom is discussing this with his guest commentators and I'm getting pretty angry about how this is supposed to be good news – that, finally, after years of Fox News ignoring allegations of his sexual harassment of women employees until their ad revenue was threatened – this is supposed to represent some great progress for women in the workplace?

Thankfully, Margaret Brennan is one of the commentators responding. Neither decision, to keep him or fire him, was made in the interest of women's rights and dignity in the workplace. These were business decisions, Margaret Brennan forcefully points out:

I'm listening very intently to her remarks, particularly because in her voice, which sounds professional and calm, I swear I can hear a slight tremor, some anger, some heat, and I'm glad for it

that moment, honest to God, the exact moment she's saying should be wrong my phone battery dies – on period
